NEW TO YOGA?

The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Yoga FAQ

When I first started doing yoga, I was intimidated. I thought “yoga” was a complicated, expensive exercise class. I thought I would look silly as a beginner in class and make a complete fool of myself.

I don’t want anyone else to feel that way (yoga is for everyone!), so I’ve made this “Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Yoga” FAQ to help clear up the confusion and answer some common questions. I hope you find it helpful in your yoga journey!

  • I’m new to yoga. Would I benefit from a private yoga lesson?
Absolutely! This is the original reason why I started offering private lessons. I remember being new to yoga and feeling intimidated to walk into a class. I saw the flexible yogis on Instagram in the crazy advanced postures and I thought a yoga class would be like that. I want to take all of the fear and intimidation out of yoga. Private instruction will introduce you to the yoga poses and techniques in a safe, comfortable environment. Then you can bring this new knowledge to a group class (or keep practicing privately, of course, if you prefer)! If you’re completely new to yoga, my Yoga for Beginners guide has a lot of information and will answer any questions you might have.
  • I have back pain/knee problems/arthritis/limited mobility. Would private yoga work for me?
Yes. Yoga is proven to be incredibly healing, but group classes can actually be problematic for people with injuries or physical limitations. You need the one-on-one personalization that a private session will offer you. I am trained and certified in accessible/sustainable yoga and Chair Yoga and can offer modifications and variations that are right for you. *That said, I am not a physical therapist or doctor. It’s best to check with a medical professional and get the green light before beginning any yoga or fitness program.
  • How is a private yoga session different than a group yoga class?
Group yoga classes are great in their own right, but not for everyone and not for every situation. Private yoga lessons are a great way to personalize your yoga experience and they allow for more individual attention from the instructor. If you are hesitant to take a group class right now for any reason at all, or you want to accelerate your results, private lessons are the perfect choice. I have SO much to say on this topic that I wrote an article about it. Click here to read it.
  • How long will it take before I see progress?
This is a frustrating answer, but it’s true nonetheless: it depends. I meet with most of my clients on a weekly ongoing basis. The benefits aren’t as obvious from a single session. The longer you practice yoga, the more change you’ll see (and feel). We all want immediate gratification these days. I get it. You’ll see some changes right away, but most of the big benefits come a little later on down the road. If you stick with it, you’ll start to see the full body and mind transformation that you’re looking for.
  • Where are you located?
We meet at Dance Connection studios in Granbury, which is right next to Aldi off 377. The studio has everything we need for your session: mat, blocks, yoga straps, etc. *I can travel to your home depending on location.
